YEMEN

(1) 29 August | Sana'a | Al Houthi Movement and GPC Party Announces an Effort to Ease Tensions
Al Houthi movement leaders and officials from former president Ali Abdullah Saleh’s GPC party announced an effort to ease tensions between the two groups. GPC and al Houthi movement officials urged supporters to focus on combating the Saudi-led coalition. However, attacks between 2 groups are still on going with casualties.

(2) 29 August | Northern Abyan | Militants also attacked a Yemeni Military Officer
Militants attacked an 115th brigade officer in Lawder district, northern Abyan governorate, southern Yemen.

(3) 29 August | Southern Al Bayda | AQAP Attacked Al Houthi-Saleh forces in central Yemen
Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) militants attacked al Houthi-Saleh forces with small arms fire and artillery in the Tayab area, southern al Bayda.

(4) 28 August | Northern Aden | Militants attacked the Chief of Police
Militants attacked the convoy of the chief of police of Dar Sa’ad, northern Aden governorate, with small arms. The attack injured 1 guard.

(5) 27 August | Ataq | Militants detonated an IED in Ataq City
Militants detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting Emirati-backed Shabwani Elite Forces in Ataq city, central Shabwah governorate.

(6) 28 August | Najran, Southern Saudi Arabia | Al Houthi-Saleh Forces Launched Ballastic Missile to Saudi Arabia
Al Houthi-Saleh forces launched a “Zilzal-2” ballistic missile targeting a Saudi security headquarters in Siqam, southern Najran region, southern Saudi Arabia. Al Houthi-Saleh forces also shelled Siqam with Katyusha rockets.

 

HORN OF AFRICA

(1) 29 August | Garbaharey, Somalia | Al Shabaab Leader Surrendered to Somali National Army
Al Shabaab leader Abu Mujahid surrendered to Somali National Army (SNA) troops in Garbaharey, Gedo region, southern Somalia. This marks the second al Shabaab commander to defect to the Somali Federal Government since former deputy leader Mukhtar Robow (Abu Mansur) defected to the Somali Federal Government.

(2) 29 August | Daynunay, Somalia | Al Shabaab Militants Ambushed Somali National Army
Al Shabaab militants ambushed SNA troops in Daynunay town, Bay region, southern Somalia.

(3) 28 August | Alula, Somalia | Unidentified warplanes struck Islamic State
Unidentified warplanes struck Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in Alula, Bari region, northern Somalia. ISIS maintains a small presence in mountainous villages outside of Qandala town, Bari region.
